The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures has truly opened the door to a life of adventure, which began with a year-long exchange in Nice, France. And that is precisely the lifestyle I chose to pursue.
With a fluency in both English and Russian and advanced knowledge of French and German, I am currently employed by the Department of National Defence in various capacities, with responsibilities ranging from personnel training to provision of linguistic support to operations. I enjoy the fast-paced, ever-changing environment that continues to challenge me every day.
Concurrently, I am pursuing a master's degree in International Affairs at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs in Ottawa, Ontario. In my studies, I sought to incorporate my background in languages and cultures into the field of international relations. My graduate research project investigates the hortatory rhetoric of the "War on Terrorism," employing critical discourse analysis methodology to discern the discursive strategies that function as enablers to mobilizing the target audience.
