Moon cited in iPolitics article.

Professor Richard Moon was cited in an iPolitics article on Senate proposal to loosen libel laws published on July 13, 2015. Read the online article here.

The article discusses the suggestion made by a Senate committee last week that people accused of extremism are abusing their access to the courts to sue their accusers for libel, defamation and hate speech and points out that experts have spoken out about the possible consequences that could come from bringing in new legislation to protect people making such accusations.

Moon is quoted saying that, “Some time ago we figured out that unfounded, bigoted, claims about Jews and other groups are harmful and should not be tolerated. We seem unwilling to repudiate such claims when they are about Muslims. Many people – including it seems the authors of the report – seem to think it’s okay to make unfounded bigoted claims about Muslims.”
