Islamophobia: Dispelling Myths Through Dialogue

The faculty of law and the Islamic Council held a community meeting last Wednesday to dispel myths around Islam. Professor Julie Macfarlane says "it was a wonderful evening, attended by representatives of many faith communities and many others. I hope we can build on this to keep Islamophobia out of our community. "Professor Macfarlane was very pleased with the turnout. "At the law school we are painfully aware of the rise in hostility and hatred towards Canadian Muslims, fueled by rhetoric over attempts at a "Muslim ban", which have inevitably affected the confidence of some of our students (among many others) when crossing the border for study purposes."

This community event was planned jointly with the Islamic Council of Windsor to invite community and university members to share their thoughts and fears on this topic, and to express solidarity with the Muslim community in Windsor and at the University of Windsor. Information and better understanding was the key purpose of the event.

CTV news covered the Islamophobia forum, you can see the clip here.
