Annette Demers earned her BA (Hons. Law) from Carleton University in 1995, her LLB from the University of Windsor in 1998, and her MLIS from Western in 2002. In 1995, she attended the Hague Academy of International Law. She has also taken french courses through the University of Western Ontario Continuing Education program, and she has taken courses through the Canadian Institute for Management. In 2016, Annette participated in the Northern Exposure to Leadership Institute as a mentor.
Annette was appointed as head of the Paul Martin Law Library in August of 2011.
Annette has taught Advanced Legal Research for the past several years.
Annette has almost thirty years of library experience. From 2005 - 2011, she worked as a Reference Librarian in the Paul Martin Law Library. Prior to this, she worked as a Reference Librarian for International, Foreign and Comparative Law at the Harvard Law School Library. In her pre-professional career, she worked at the Library of Parliament for five years, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Library, and in the Carleton University libraries system. Annette has also practiced law early in her career.
Annette is currently the informal faculty advisor to the Legal Innovation Hub student club, and she is co-Chair of the Faculty of Law Equity and Diversity Committee. She also represents the Faculty of Law at the campus wide IT Advisory Committee and the Learning Management System Advisory Committee. Annette currently sits on the Faculty of Law Building Steering Committee and on the Curriculum Reform Committee. In the past, Annette has been quite involved with a wide variety of projects and committees across the University of Windsor campus including working with the Windsor University Faculty Association, including working on the Contracts Committee and as the VP Women's Issues and Chair of the Status of Women Committee.
Annette is Past-President of the Canadian Association of Law Libraries (CALL). From 2013 - 2015, she was President of CALL. From 2011-2013, she was Vice-President of CALL. Annette currently Chairs the Programming Committee for the CALL Conference Planning Committee (Hamilton, 2020).
In 2010, she Chaired the CALL Conference Planning Committee which brought 350 attendees, presenters and exhibitors to Windsor. In 2008 she was essential in planning and executing CALL's first-ever Law Library Leadership Institute in 2007.
Annette's current areas of interest include: database management, legal research education, leadership and organizational theory, and access to court data. Annette has published serveral articles, and was part of the core author team for all three editions of the Comprehensive Guide to Legal Research, Writing and Analysis (Emond Montgomery), with Professors Moira McCarney and Ruth Kuras.
