Adam Fucile and Joseph Tung at the National LawMeet CompetitionAdam Fucile and Joseph Tung at the National LawMeet Competition

Congratulations to the Dual JD Team of 3Ls, Adam Fucile and Joseph Tung, who placed first in the Regional LawMeet in Chicago in February, earning them the right to compete in the National competition where they earned second place, outperforming 82 teams from law schools across the U.S. and Canada.

The National LawMeet Competition was held Friday, March 31, at the offices of Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City and featured morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session involved two back-to-back negotiating sessions with top teams from other regional competitions. The top four teams from the morning session made up the "Final Four" that competed in afternoon.

Adam and Joseph performed extremely well, besting very good teams from UCLA (last year's overall winner) and Notre Dame to win a place in the "Final Four." Finalists are judged by the entire panel of judges, each a highly experienced transactional practitioner.  Adam and Joseph did an outstanding job in the finals, placing second overall to the Georgia team and earning high praise from the 12 judges.

This premier competition focuses on skills every practicing lawyer needs - contract drafting and effective negotiation of business transactions.  Employers are looking for young lawyers with this kind of training, and getting some of that training during law school is a huge advantage. One of the judges remarked that, "It's hard to believe that they (the contestants) are law students. I didn't get any training like this in law school. These folks are years ahead of where I was when I graduated."

Congratulations, gentlemen!
