Post 1: Welcome to Windsor Law

CONGRATS on your acceptance into Windsor Law!

After studying for and writing the LSAT (maybe more than once), agonizing over your applications, ordering copies of your transcripts, and ensuring you had proper reference letters, you had to wait. And wait, and probably wait some more. I bet you checked the mail constantly and refreshed the OLSAS webpage persistently. Then one day, you opened the email or letter, and it changed your fate. Now, YOU’VE FINALLY MADE IT.

Rumor has it that 1L is the toughest year, and there is merit to what people say. There is a big learning curve, a new environment, and more demands both academically and socially. But from my humble opinion, getting into Law School is the hardest part.

I hope that you realize that you were admitted for a reason. Through your application you were able to prove to the administration that you have the necessary brains and work ethic to succeed here. Whatever you did to get through your undergraduate worked, and it will continue to do so over the next three years.

My first impression of uWindsor was at the Toronto Meet and Greet at the Duke of York. I’m not a shy person by any means, and I love a good party, but for some reason I was really nervous to attend. When I arrived, I was overcome by the buzzing excitement. As my eyes scanned the room I realized that it was not just the 1Ls in attendance. I was somewhat surprised that there were faculty members present, but what really got me was that there were so many second and third year students there.  I couldn’t believe that was how they wanted to spend a beautiful Saturday summer night.

After spending just one year in the comfort of the Law School student body – I get it. I understand why those second and third-year students came down to welcome the incoming 1Ls into the uWindsor family. Just a few weeks ago, I couldn’t wait to help you guys kick off the next chapter of your lives.

I was really excited to meet many of you and I have to say that it is true – life in Windsor really is a good time. That night, a few 1Ls asked me why all the upper year students kept saying that Windsor is so fun. One would think that Law School is full of stress and anxiety, but we really know how to throw it down. Every week the SLS (Student Law Society) and the Social Committee put together great events and initiatives to get everyone together. That being said, make sure you register for all the programs during Orientation Week. You won’t regret it!

So, welcome to the PMP Blog, and stay tuned for the upcoming posts. The next one will include some need-to-know facts about getting ready for school, and will define some of the legal lingo you’ll hear constantly once school starts.
