Fall 2011

Request for Note Takers

Introduction:
In your class, there may be students who have documented disabilities and require note taking services.
The process of note taking has the potential to be mutually beneficial to both you and the student requiring service. It has been suggested that note takers take better personal notes when they have the opportunity to provide a valuable service to a fellow student.
As a note taker you are a crucial link in the support services that the University of Windsor is able to provide to its students with disabilities.

Office of the Dean

This was to have been the September issue of WINDSOR LAW Matters and my first contribution to this publication - but time has flown by so quickly that it's the end of October and I am already midway through my term as Acting Dean!  Assistant Dean Herlehy has been remarkably patient waiting for me to spout my wisdom so before this WLM ends up being the December edition, I am taking pen to paper (or, more accurately, keyboard to word processor) to reflect on some of the highlights (so far) of my time as Acting Dean.

Focus on Students

The exhaustion he felt as Canada Day drew to a close was accompanied by a sense of great accomplishment, says Josh Knox. The Windsor Law student helped to staff a kiosk in Ottawa on July 1 for the Charter Project, discussing Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms with people heading to celebrations on Parliament Hill.

"It was a zoo," says Knox, just finished his first year in the dual JD program. "I would say we had over 1,000 visitors."

Office of the Associate Dean

We have had a great start to the year in my view.  I have enjoyed getting to know some new people – at the Dean’s BBQ and the Parkinson’s Superwalk among other venues – and seeing returning students.  Welcome, or welcome back.

Welcome back!

Fall Registration has concluded and Winter Registration is suspended until its resumption in November.  Although a large number of courses were full and many students were on waiting lists, most Fall semester course waiting lists were cleared.

When registration opens in November, the Winter semester course waiting lists will be reactivated with positions resuming where they closed off on September 19th.

Another successful course change period!

Reunion Reflections

In September, so many of our Windsor Law students are toiling away in the Faculty of Law building, wondering what courses they will need, what career paths they might secure, and what their future may hold.  The ironic undercurrent to this is that reunion planning for the Alumni and Fund Development Office is in full swing.  Reunions offer an interesting perspective on how things actually turn out for a Windsor Law grad.
