Much has happened in the six months since I have become Dean of Windsor Law.  What follows is an attempt to identify some highlights, first impressions and emerging priorities.

As we begin the registration cycle, we devote this issue of WINDSOR LAW Matters to registration.  Here are some things you should consider before you start:

The Law Library has been busy under the guidance of Annette Demers, Acting Law Librarian and Lecturer.  Her term started on September 1, 2011 and has been extended to December 31, 2012.  Under her leadership, the library has acquired additional electronic resources to meet your international law needs; increased the number of library training sessions to help you become a better legal researcher; and promoted better communication with faculty, students and staff in order to meet your service expectations.

The Importance of Course Selection

June – We are ending one academic year and preparing for the next!

Our third year students graduated on Friday, June 15th – a day of celebration but, also a day of farewell to three long years of Law School.  It is a beginning of their legal career, full of hope and expectation.  Good luck – we will miss you.

For the Class of 2013 and the Class of 2015, it is the release of final grades and anticipation as they look towards the start of their next year of legal study.

David M. Tanovich, M.A. (Toronto), LL.B. (Queens), LL.M. (NYU) is an award winning Professor who teaches and writes in the areas of criminal law, evidence, legal ethics, and racial profiling.   Prior to joining our faculty, Professor Tanovich clerked for Chief Justice Antonio Lamer of the Supreme Court of Canada and was a partner with Pinkofsky Lockyer where he argued more than 90 cases in the Supreme Court of Canada and Ontario Court of Appeal.

Paulette Pommels received her Bachelor of Laws from Windsor in 2003 and after summering at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, she clerked for the Superior Court of Justice in Toronto before returning to BLG as a civil litigator in the areas of product liability, defamation, sexual assault, and personal injury.

In 2011, Paulette made a brave decision to leave the practice of law and started her own business, “Creative Choices for the 21st Century Lawyer”.  Based in Toronto, Paulette helps other lawyers by acting as mediator, freelance litigator and career coach.
