Professor John Cerone was interviewed by Al Jazeera English on April 12. In the interview, he discussed the judgment by the European Court of Human Rights in relation to the Beslan attack. He discussed the reviewability of judgments of the European court of human rights, and the balancing act required of states under human rights law in preventing and responding to abuses perpetrated by nonstate actors, such as the Beslan terrorists.

Professor John Cerone was interviewed by Al Jazeera April 4. The topic was the latest Chemical weapons attack in Syria. He discussed the criminalization of chemical weapons use in internal armed conflicts, the political and practical obstacles to prosecutions, the recent openings of investigations in Austria and Spain, as well as the newly established special investigative task force created by the UN General Assembly to document and preserve evidence of international crimes being committed in Syria.

Professor John Cerone discussed legal and political obstacles to accountability for the use of chemical weapons in the Syria conflict, from the timing of Syria’s accession to the chemical weapons to the political configuration of the permanent members of the Security Council in a live Al Jezeera interview on September 28.
