Mediation Services

Mediation Services are provided free for members of the Windsor-Essex community as well as University of Windsor staff and students.

If you are interested in mediation to resolve a dispute, contact our office to learn more and to set up a time to meet with one of our mediation interns.

What is mediation?

Mediation is the process of negotiating a resolution to a dispute with the help of an impartial third party. Mediation allows each party to speak about the dispute from their own perspective and work together on a solution that benefits everyone.

The mediators assist you in discussing your interests, needs and options for a settlement. When all parties agree to settle their dispute, they sign an agreement which outlines the terms of their mediated settlement.

Who are the mediators?

The mediators include the Director of Mediation Services, who is a professional mediator, and upper-year law and social work students at the University of Windsor. All mediators receive comprehensive training in mediation and facilitation.

How are the mediation sessions scheduled?

The first step is to call Mediation Services to set up a time to meet with a mediation intern to discuss the details of your dispute or situation. Following this initial meeting, the other side in the dispute will be contacted, and if they are willing to mediate, a mediation session will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time.

You can attend the mediation on your own or it may be helpful to bring a friend, legal representative or other support person.
