Department of Family Medicine - Windsor

Dr. Dale Ziter, Post Graduate Director Family MedicineMessage from Dr. Dale Ziter, Post Graduate Academic Director

Why train in Windsor? As the Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program since its inception, I have seen only happy residents who have had no regrets about training in Windsor. Our program was started under the guidance of the London program directors, considered to be the fathers of Family Medicine training in Canada. We have grown exponentially over the next several years and have developed our own unique character. Quite simply, we offer an environment very conducive to learning. We can boast about a pleasing mix of "small town", "hands-on", lots of patients, very busy with a "big town" full blown academic medical school attitude!

Our Family Medicine Residents have the choice to train in many locations but ALL core rotations and several electives can be done in Windsor. You will learn from experienced teachers without the crowded learning environment of other locations. Family Medicine is the largest and most popular training program in Windsor. Our Family Medicine Residents are key members of their rotations in Paediatrics, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, and often first assist in Surgery.

As a Family Medicine Resident in Windsor you will have the benefit of direct supervision from experienced, evidence-based and enthusiastic physician preceptors and you will teach students and clerks. You will also be offered the opportunity to become involved with teaching first and second-year medical students at the University during your Family Medicine block rotations.

We offer several training sites with preceptors who have active, comprehensive care practices and a variety of interests. Most often, you will be one-on-one with your preceptor. The Resident will have every opportunity to learn. You will train with a group of Residents that is large enough to organize many activities together with yet small enough to get to know.

Our City of Windsor is well known for its generosity, friendliness and welcoming attitude towards the medical school and medical learners. Living in Windsor is relatively inexpensive and very entertaining. You are steps away from world-class dining, shopping, sports, music and theatre spanning both borders. While training in Windsor, we will provide you with every opportunity to learn while in the office and the hospital and a multitude of opportunities to enjoy your free time.
