In September 2017, the University of Windsor School of Creative Arts - Music initiated the “Honours Jazz Ensemble” under the direction of Mr. Robert Fazecash. The purpose of this group is to provide aspiring high school music students the opportunity to perform in a high-caliber jazz oriented youth ensemble.
This group is open to all students in grades 9 to 12 by audition on the following instruments: Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone (Alto, Tenor, Baritone), Piano, Bass, Guitar, Drums. Auditions will be by appointment and will be ongoing. There is a $115 fee for successful applicants participating in the 10-week program. This semester, rehearsals begin on Monday, January 8, 2018 and finishing May 14. There are a few Mondays off (Family Day Feb. 12, March 12 for the high school break and Apr. 2 Easter Monday).
Rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 7 – 9 pm. in the Rehearsal Hall, room B22, at the new downtown School of Creative Arts Armouries -- the former Windsor Armouries located at 37 University Avenue East, one block east of Ouellette Avenue in downtown Windsor.
Parents of all students must complete, sign and return a  UWindsor Parental Waiver form

Audition Requirements

  • 1 prepared jazz excerpt of your choice (e.g. From an arrangement from your school group or a song from the Real Book)
  • Scales – up to 4 sharps and 4 flats
  • Sight Reading – Blues melody
  • Drums: demonstrate various styles (swing, latin, rock, funk)
