Biography:
Clarinetist Cecilia Kang’s versatile career as a performer, educator and a scholar has taken her around the globe to Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, USA, South Korea and China.
A laureate of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra Standard Life Competition, the Canadian Music Competition and numerous concerto competitions, she has also received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alliance for Canadian New Music Projects, the Kingsway Foundation, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington, DC.
An avid chamber musician, Dr. Kang has performed at the Thy Chamber Music Festival in Denmark, the IMPULS Contemporary Music Festival in Austria, the ONCE MORE Festival in the USA, the Banff Centre for the Arts and the Collingwood Music Festival in Canada, and the Beijing International Clarinet and Saxophone Festival in China. She is also a founding member of the Axios Woodwind Quintet and the St. Andrew Kim Youth Chamber Orchestra.
She obtained a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Music degree from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto. Dr. Kang currently serves on the faculty at Concordia University and at the Ann Arbor School for the Performing Arts in Michigan. She is a Rico Performing Artist.

Ying-jhu Emily Lai passionately applies her piano talents across a striking range of collaborative opportunities. Her performances have been heard in various prestigious music events, such as
Tanglewood Music Festival in 2010 and
Aspen Music Festival in 2008. In addition to performing as vocal pianist with singers, she also has worked as concert pianist and enjoys her role as collaborative pianist in chamber music groups.
The multifaceted artistry of opera attracted her to several opera productions under a variety of conductors’ baton, including Armide by Gluck at the University of Michigan with Douglas Frost (2010), La Rondine by Puccini in Oberlin in Italy with Ward Holmquist in Arezzo, Italy (2009), and Il Trittico by Puccini at Manhattan School of Music with Thomas Muraco (2007). She served in Up North Vocal Institute as vocal coach in the summer of 2011. In addition to be the pianist for Michigan Youth Women’s Chorale and Opera on Tap, she is a founding member of the MONÉ trio, and music director of the Leslie Park Maple Tree Music Studio.
She holds her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Collaborative Piano from the University of Michigan. She also earned a Professional Study Certificate in vocal accompanying from Manhattan School of Music, and obtained her Master of Music degree and Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Tung-hai University in Taiwan.
