Welcome to Music Therapy

Bachelor of Music Therapy Program:

Applications to the Bachelor of Music Therapy degree program will not be accepted this year as admissions to the program have been suspended, effective September 8, 2011. Questions may be addressed to Professor Philip Adamson (adamson@uwindsor.ca).

Our programme has a reputation for excellence in music therapy education within a friendly learning community. Students prepare for careers in music therapy in collaborative work with highly qualified faculty through extensive clinical and academic experiences.

The Music Therapy Programme is exciting and unique in a number of ways:

  • Importance is placed on development as both a musician and a therapist, studies in music therapy and music begin in the first year;
  • A 6-month music therapy internship is an official course within the degree programme, thus providing students with real-life experiences while ensuring them the necessary guidance and support of university faculty;
  • Focus is placed on the international -- the place of music therapy within the "global village," as well as specifics concerning the practice of music therapy in Canada and the United States;
  • Our Bachelor of Music Therapy programme is the only one in North America approved by both the Canadian Association for Music Therapy (CAMT) and the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).
  • "Social Justice" is the focus of both the university and of the Music Therapy Programme. Music Therapy students learn not only to provide exceptional music therapy services, but also to become advocates for their clients and for change in society to ensure equal sociocultural access for people of all abilities.
