Canadian Soprano Julie Ludwig is a versatile performerJulie Ludwig, soprano

Soprano Julie Ludwig is a versatile performer, praised for her interpretations of soubrette and lyric coloratura repertoire.

On the opera stage, she has recently joined the Windsor Symphony Orchestra as Musetta in La bohème, the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra as Amalia in Canadian composer Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s The Perfect Screw, and Opera 5 as Adele in Die Fledermaus. Her performance in Die Fledermaus received glowing reviews: “Julie Ludwig was a consistently accomplished Adele, a crystalline soubrette with effortless coloratura” (Definitely the Opera) and “She was physically committed the whole way through. Her twinkling soprano had some surprising power when she unleashed it, and it married well with the courtly manner of Strauss II’s music. Her “Laughing Song” had me in stitches.” (Schmopera).

As a member of Calgary Opera’s Emerging Artist Program, she performed Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia and covered Elvira in L’Italiana in Algeri. Julie also performed Gretel in an English adaptation of Hansel and Gretel which toured Southern Alberta. Other select opera credits include Emmie (Albert Herring) conducted by Steuart Bedford at the Aldeburgh Music Festival, Despina (Così fan tutte) in Jeunesses Musicales du Canada’s production which toured eastern Quebec and the Maritimes, Laurie (The Tender Land), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), and Susanna and Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro).

Increasingly in demand as a concert soloist, Julie has appeared with the Toronto Concert Orchestra, the Bach Elgar Choir, the Calgary Civic Symphony, the Timmins Symphony, and Calgary’s Festival Chorus and Orchestra. She is an alumna of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, and has performed at the Banff Centre, the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy, the Halifax Summer Opera Festival, and has given recitals in Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia. She holds a Masters in Vocal Performance from Western University.
