Nursing Preceptor Cindy Pawlikowski recipient of 2014 COUPN Preceptor Recognition Award

April 22, 2014 - Congratulations to 4th year nursing preceptor Cindy Pawlikowski (Windsor Regional Hospital Family Birthing Centre), who is the recipient of the 2014 Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing (COUPN) Preceptor Recognition Award. Cindy was nominated for this award by a 4th year BScN student, who wrote that Cindy was "an educator, a listener, a promoter and an overall value to the nursing profession. Her exceptional care of clients, and dedication to the future of our profession makes her an incredible nurse and a remarkable teacher."

Nursing student's infertility support group instrumental in recent government funding for IVF treatments

April 20, 2014 - 3rd year nursing student Ashley Bulley and her husband's own fertility challenges prompted them to pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF) five years ago after raising the $17,000 cost through fundraising efforts of friends, family and the community. They are now the parents of twins. This endeavour not only inspired Ashley's nursing career, but also a need to make a difference for those less fortunate. Ashley and her husband began petitioning the government for IVF funding by gaining thousands of signatures, as well as the support of a number of members of parliament.

Nursing students Regina Yuen & Colleen Broaderip recognized by Connecting4Success mentoring program

April 2, 2014 - Congratulations to BScN students Regina Yuen (year 1) and Colleen Broaderip (year 4), who were recognized at the Connecting4Success (C4S) End of the Year Celebration on Saturday, March 29/14.

C4S is the first generation mentoring program run through Student Affairs. Regina Yuen was recognized as mentee of the year for taking full advantage of her experience with C4S.  Her mentor, Colleen Broaderip, was recognized with the Making A Difference Award.

BScN graduate's article published in Nursing 2014

March 26, 2013 - Congratulations to graduate Katrina Baldwin (BScN '13) and instructor Virgina Walsh, whose article titled "Independent double-checks for high-alert medications: Essential practice" has been pubished in Nursing 2014 - April 2014 (Volume 44 - Issue 4 - p 65-67). Katrina worked on this paper as part of the Transition to Practice course (scholarly writing lab component), which was taught by Virginia Walsh.
