The Odette School of Business is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of David Carter, BComm ’65, MBA ’69 and Professor Emeritus. He is fondly remembered by his students and colleagues below…
Professor Carter was one the first true professionals I met when I started my route in the CA profession. He knew the name of every student in his classes and conducted himself in a manner that inspired young people to embrace accounting and auditing, in particular. He made auditing interesting and said it will help you someday as a professional understand the risks of the businesses you may be involved in. How true, from my experience. He is one of the legends of our business school in my mind and will be missed.
Garnet Fenn, CA and Sessional Instructor
I first met David Carter when I arrived at the University of Windsor in the Fall of 1976. My first office (in the Southwest wing of Windsor Hall where business was then located) was close to the offices of David Carter, Dave Wilson, George Neal, John Geisbrecht, and Cass Ebraheim (all in accounting). These guys, along with George Field in marketing, introduced me to the Dominion House Tavern and we spent many Tuesday evenings (after class) having a beer and very enjoyable conversations at the DH.
Dave Carter left the University of Windsor for the University of Waterloo three years after I arrived and I was very sorry to see him go. He had become a very good friend. Dave was smart, friendly, helpful and always in an upbeat mood. Dave worked very well and very closely with his students. He was very well liked by the students. I was in contact with Dave for a number of years after he left but, as often happens, we were out of contact for many years. I was happy to see Dave once again at the Clark Awards Dinner on campus several months ago. Dave Wilson was being honored and David Carter and his wife, Barbara, drove in from Kitchener for the dinner. As usual, Dave was happy, upbeat and a joy to talk to. I’m very happy to have had the chance to talk with Dave one more time.
