The Odette School of Business is pleased to welcome Dr. Richard Peddie as the special guest speaker for the upcoming Breakfast with Champions: How to Build Winning Organizations event on Wednesday, January 25 beginning at 7:15 a.m. in the Odette building.

Peddie, an alumnus of the University of Windsor, received an Honours Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1970 and an Honorary Doctor of Laws in 2001.

Upon graduating, Peddie joined Colgate Palmolive in sales and marketing. In 1973, he joined General Foods where he was soon promoted to VP, GM of the Cold Beverage and Cereal division and in 1983 was promoted to the position of President of Hostess Foods.  In 1985 Richard became President & CEO of Pillsbury Canada. While he was CEO of Pillsbury Richard was awarded the Donald B. McCaskill Award for Marketing Excellence in Canada and the company almost doubled in size, recorded record earnings and share of market and was chosen as one of Canada’s “100 Best Companies” by the Financial Post.

In 1989 Peddie switched his career focus and accepted the top job as President  & CEO of Toronto’s world-class SkyDome. Under his leadership, SkyDome was chosen as the Stadium of the Year four years running by the Sports and Entertainment Industry and, in 1992, he was chosen as the North American Facility Manager of the Year. In 1995, Richard was appointed President & COO of Labatt Communications (TSN, The Discovery Channel, Dome Productions). In July of that year he was one of the key individuals in the management-led consortium that purchased the company and renamed it NetStar Communications. Richard was named President of the Toronto Raptors basketball team in 1996 and, in 1998, President and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which currently owns the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Marlies (AHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto FC (MLS), Maple Leaf Square, and the Air Canada Centre.

In celebration of Dr. Peddie’s remarkable accomplishments as corporate leader, the Odette School of Business is honoured to announce the establishment of...

The Richard Peddie Leadership Initiative

This Initiative has three key elements to be announced at the breakfast, and will position The Odette School of Business at the forefront of assessing and developing student leadership potential.
