Konrad Niec, Outstanding Scholar in French and Political Science

Konrad Niec began his scholastic Konrad Niec, Outstanding Scholar in French and Political Sciencejourney at the University of Windsor in fall 2005 when he entered his first year of studies towards Bachelor of Arts, Honours program in French and Political Science and won the Outstanding Scholars Award. In his second year he worked with Professor Emeritus Dr. Jean Pierre De Villiere. That first of the three academic appointments was a turning point in Konrad’s academic development. His frequent conversations with his professor not only gave him a chance to improve his language skills but also gave him an opportunity to talk with his professor on a variety of topics and to discover his enjoyment of French literature. His third academic year Konrad spent on the exchange in Niece during which he continued his work with Dr. De Villiere translating for him Polish futurist poetry into French. Konrad is graduating this year and is thinking about international opportunities in journalism, business and government service.

 

 

Jingmiao Shi, Outstanding Scholar in Environmental Engineering

Jingmiao Shi came to Windsor from central Jingmiao Shi, Outstanding Scholar in Enivronmental EngineeringChina to study Environmental Engineering. She is one of several international students who qualified and won the Outstanding Scholar award upon entry the University coming directly from high school. She has completed her third year of study and has already worked with Professor Iris Xiu on an air-quality monitoring project at Windsor Airport. During her third year of studies she worked as an Academic Appointee with Professor Edwin Tam on an analysis of contamination levels in previously developed properties to assess their potential further development. Jingmiao feels that her practical work as an Academic Appointee will give her an edge in the future in finding an exciting employment in her field.

 

 

 

Iva Peklova, Outstanding Scholar in Environmental Science.

Iva Peklova, Outstanding Scholar in Enivronmental ScienceIva Peklova came to University of Windsor from Prague, in the Chech Republic. She is a third year Outstanding Scholar in Environmental Science who works with Professor Fisk as his Academic Appointee at the Great Lakes Institute. It means that Iva spends more time in the labs on a top of her already busy academic schedule. She realizes that the experience she is gaining through the Outstanding Scholars program and working with Dr. Fisk will help her next year with writing her thesis.

If you do not meet Iva in her lab or in classrooms she probably spends the rest of her free time with the Women’s Lancers’ basketball team.

Marc Funkenhauser, Outstanding Scholar in Music

Marc Funkenhauser, Outstanding Scholar in MusicOutstanding Scholar in Music, Marc Funkenhauser has curently completed his third year majoring in Music Education. For his appointment he has been assisting the concert producer and operations manager at the School of Music. Being responsible for tuning instruments, setting up microphones for different instruments, and making arrangements for concerts outside the School keeps Mark very busy before the events. He is the first to arrive and the last one to leave the concert venue. His working experience has opened many new professional prospects for him after graduation.
