Parents and Students will attend separate sessions in the morning only.
8:00 - 8:30 PARENT SESSION CHECK-IN
(Winclare A, Vanier Hall)
Receive your Parent & Family Handbook. All morning sessions for parents and family members will take place in this location.
8:00 - 8:30 STUDENT SESSION CHECK-IN
(CAW Centre, 2nd Floor)
Students will spend the morning with student leaders and faculty advisors.
8:30 -9:55 PARENTS: TRANSITION TO UNIVERSITY
Our Student Development Specialists will help you to make sense of the changes that lie ahead for you and your student. Learn how you can help with this important transition and foster a sense of independence and responsibility in your student. Find out how your student can earn ballots for UwinCASH.
9:55 -10:15 COFFEE BREAK
Mingle with the Student Development & Support staff, student leaders, and other parents for an informal chat.
10:15 -11:45 STUDENT LEADER PRESENTATION & PARENT DISCUSSION
Our experienced student leaders will walk you through an interactive session to help you understand the supports and services available. These student leaders have participated in many hours of training and are qualified to share valuable information with you. Leaders will provide insight based on their own experiences and challenges and explain how they have grown through the process. You will have the opportunity to have your questions answered and provide input into this session. By the end of this session, you will have learned about things that you might not have even considered. We believe this will increase your confidence in knowing that UWindsor is the right choice for your student.
Topics of discussion will include:
• financial implications of university and tips for saving money
• student development opportunities for learning outside the classroom
• campus and community involvement
• campus services and support
• safety, health and wellness
• ways to stay connected with your student
12:00 LUNCH (CAW Centre, Marketplace, 1st Floor)
Student leaders will be available to guide you from the parent session back to the CAW Centre where you will rejoin your student for lunch and the afternoon program. We suggest that you meet your student in front of the Information Desk on the main floor.
12:00 - 4:00 UwinCARD PHOTO
(CAW Centre, UwinCARD Office, Lower Level)
Students can get their UwinCARD (student card) picture taken by visiting the UwinCARD Office. Every student is assigned a time and this information can be found in the student handbook. Student cards will be available for pick up during Windsor Welcome Week (Sept 2-8, 2012). Government issued photo I.D. is required.
12:30 - 2:30 INFO FAIR (CAW Centre, CAW Commons Area, 1st Floor)
Learn more about the campus services that can make your student’s first year easier. Visit a variety of interactive information booths. Keep your eye out for freebies and activities. During the information fair, feel free to visit the Parking Services Office (CAW Centre, 2nd floor) purchase your student’s parking pass while supplies last.
12:45 & 1:30 CAMPUS TOURS (CAW Centre, Information Desk, 1st Floor)
Tours will depart from the CAW Centre’s Information Desk. In 40 minutes, explore our beautiful campus and locate the buildings where your student’s classes will be held. See first-hand where important service offices are located. Any special requests? Be sure to mention them to your tour guide.
1:00 - 3:00 REGISTRATION (Computer Centre)
If your student still needs to register for classes, visit us in the Computer Centre. You student can also activate his/her University webmail account, sign up for our campus UWindsor ALERT and learn how to obtain internet access from home.
2:00 - 3:00 RESIDENCE AND UWIN CARD PRESENTATION
(CAW Centre, Ambassador Auditorium, 2nd Floor)
Is your student making the exciting choice to live on campus this fall? Learn more about residence, your food/meal plan, your UwinCARD and Student Ancillary Services. You'll receive details on what residence can offer your students, how they can use their meal plans and all about the multi uses of the UwinCARD. Residence Life Staff will give you and your student a guided tour of the residences where you can ask any questions you might have. Attending this session will give your students a jump start to making their residence experience unforgettable.
