Greetings from the fun and fabulous Physics Department at the University of Windsor.  We are committed to our strategic priorities of Teaching Excellence, Experiential Learning and Community Engagement.  Our Department is uniquely known for the multiple genres of experiential learning opportunities we provide all our students.  Most students participate in research with our world-renowned faculty in the areas of Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) Physics, Materials Science, and Biomedical Physics.  Explore these pages, and if you'd like to know more, request a tour of the Department by sending an email to physics@uwindsor.ca.

Two Department of Physics Faculty Recognized with UWindsor Award for Excellence in Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity On February 28, 2013, Dr. Michael Siu, the UWindsor Vice-President, Research, recognized two of our faculty with Special Honors.  Associate Professor Elena Maeva was recognized for a FedDev/Ontario Brain Institute Award and Assistant Professor Steve Rehse was recognized for a Canada Foundation for Innovation - Leaders Opportunity Fund award.  A full list of honorees can be found here.

Undergraduate Co-op Presentations
A special poster session was held on January 29th, 2013 to celebrate the achievement of our undergraduate student co-op participants.  A link to their posters is available here.

Employee of the Month            Martha Hiuser who is covering for Kimberley Lefebvre as Department Head Secretary was awarded employee of the Month from Express Employment Professionals.

Brain research news  Dr. Elena Maeva, an associate professor in physics, is leading a project with industry partner Tessonics Inc. to develop a mobile device to diagnose head injuries on the site of accidents.  The project is supported via an investment by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) to the Ontario Brain Institute. Cancer research news  Thanks to work done by a UWindsor physics professor emeritus Mordechay Schlesinger and his PhD student Long Jian Liu, oncologists may soon be able to quickly determine if certain tumours will resist chemotherapy.  Their model mathematically illustrates how fluid pressure is distributed between cells inside a tumour, an essential measure used to determine whether chemo will be effective.  Read more.
École Secondaire Michel-Gratton Visits Physics Department   Physics and Mathematics teacher Dr. Karim Battou brought his Grade 11 and 12 Physics students to tour the Physics research labs on Thursday, Dec. 6.  Shown at right are pictures of the class talking physics with Professor McConkey, graduate students Dan Travo, Theresa Spanjers, and Rob Petro, and Professor Kedzierski.  If you would like to bring your class to tour the Department and see physics "in action" email Professor Rehse to arrange a visit.
