Biography
Zachary Rose graduated from the Political Science department’s joint MA-MPP program, in partnership with the University of Michigan-Dearborn, in 2012.
He was initially drawn to the Political Science department at Windsor because of its faculty’s broad research interests, ranging from voter behaviour, to Canadian defence studies, to major flashpoints in international relations. This multifaceted environment provided Zachary with the opportunity to develop and apply a diverse array of research and analysis skills in multiple contexts.
After graduation, Zachary pursued a career in evidence-based politics and advocacy, serving as a policy officer in a campaign for national leadership of a major political party. From there, he entered the higher education sector, researching issues such as learning outcomes and access to college and university. Zachary served as the Executive Director of the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA), a non-profit advocacy organization, which engages in research, advocacy, and government relations on behalf of undergraduate students. While there, he maintained relationships with decision-makers at the highest level of the Ontario government. He successfully lobbied for major public policy reforms such as investments in student mental health and an overhaul of Ontario’s student financial assistance program.
Zachary left OUSA in 2017 to join the government of Ontario. He currently serves as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities where he oversees key performance indicators in the university sector, and provides senior executives with insights and recommendations on a number of policy files.
Zachary has contributed several articles and briefings for the Geopolitical Monitor, and has been featured as a guest contributor to the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario’s (HEQCO) blog, “It’s not Academic.” He has been invited as a speaker and moderator at the annual conferences of HEQCO, the Centre for Innovation in Campus Mental Health, and the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer.
Zachary is thankful to the University of Windsor’s MA program for providing him with the skills, knowledge, and tools necessary to meet the challenges of politics, policy, and government.
