Combined Honours in Diaspora Studies

Diaspora Studies focus on issues of diversity critical to the multiethnic and multicultural nature of western countries. Diasporas exist for groups of people that share a collective memory of forced dispersion and emigration from an ancestral homeland, resettlement in many countries, and a deep longing to maintain connection to their homeland and culture. Most immigrant communities enclose diasporic identities and the Jewish, Armenian, Ukranian, African, and Irish diasporas are very well known.

Diaspora Studies is available as a minor, and as a major within a Combined Honours B.A. (to be taken with another subject Major) in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Windsor. The Combined Honours degree in Diaspora Studies is an interdisciplinary program, requiring courses from seven different departments, including Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, English, Communication Studies, and History.
