Many critical issues of accountability will be aided by the existence of an Office of Institutional Planning dedicated to keeping track of the key drivers in the institution. Our reporting requirements to government continue to become more complex, and are likely to do so even more as the province seeks to create higher value from its investment. There are several specific objectives that will be pursued:
-
Develop the first of what will be an annual institutional report, to be completed by November Board meeting, that summarizes our actions taken to fulfill our goals, the key indicators about institutional performance, and the financial position of the university. This will, in effect, be a report that is shaped around slide 3 in the attached deck.
-
Finalize by the end of October the key indicators to be used in this report, and ensure that they include the critical ones that indicate how well we are doing with regards to enrolment, student achievement and satisfaction, research and creative work, fundraising, and fiscal health.
-
Use this reporting framework to provide Senate, the Board of Governors, the broad university community, and external stakeholders with information on the state of the university.
-
Work with the Internal Audit Manager and other senior staff to complete an enterprise risk management framework for the University of Windsor (slides 41 and 42). This work has already begun, and on its completion in 2011/12 it will provide the backdrop against which we can most effectively assign our internal audit efforts and more effectively identify where there are residual risks that need additional controls or efforts to mitigate.
-
Provide oversight of infrastructure developments, ensuring that there are processes in place to ensure that projects remain on budget.
-
Continue to have engaged and timely relations with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities on all matters related to their work with the university sector, and matters related to accountability regarding provincial funds.
