Dr. Cheryl Thomas is an Associate Professor in the Clinical Program (Adult Clinical Track).

She completed her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Simon Fraser University in B.C., and her clinical internship at Foothills Hospital in Calgary.

Since joining the Department of Psychology in 1987, Dr. Thomas has taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses including abnormal psychology, tests and measurement, personality, psychology of sex and gender, clinical assessment, research methods, clinical assessment, graduate psychopathology, and cognitive behaviour therapy. She has supervised dozens of theses and dissertations on topics related to eating disorders and body image, and interpersonal and cultural variables.

Former graduate students are active in clinical practice in nearly every Canadian province and a number of U.S. states and, much to her delight, are now practicum and internship supervisors for many current clinical program students.

Dr. Thomas thinks clinical psychologists should practice what they preach and she enthusiastically employs cognitive and behavioural principles of change to teach new tricks to her dog, her family, and somewhat less often, herself.
