The prerequisite for entrance to the Clinical Psychology Program is an Honours B.A. in Psychology or the equivalent. Grades (minimum B required), scores on the General Graduate Record Exam (minimum 60th percentile required), reference letters, scholarly record, personal statements, personal interviews and relevant experience all play a part in the selection process. Admission is highly competitive. We receive approximately 125 applications each year and admit 11-13 new students. On average, students gaining admission have undergraduate GPAs of A- and Graduate Record Examination scores above the 75th percentile. The average age of our incoming students is 23.4 years and 77% are female. The average annual attrition rate is 3.13%.
Each student is admitted to the Clinical Psychology Program in one of our three specialized tracks. On admission, a student is assigned a graduate student "buddy" who is available to help orient the new student to the department, the campus, and the city. Track Coordinators are responsible for providing up-to-date information and advice about requirements; they also approve course registrations, and help with other needed resources. Department-sponsored orientation gatherings for new graduate students are held early in the fall semester. These gatherings offer opportunities to meet other graduate students and become acquainted with faculty and staff in the department.
