Minors

Students in most undergraduate degree programs can receive a minor that is awarded at graduation time. The minor, which is normally 6 courses in the minor area of study, will show up on the student's transcript along with their degree designation.

The course requirements for each minor are listed in the undergraduate University of Windsor calendar. Courses used to satisfy the major requirements of your program cannot be used to satisfy the requirements of the minor. You must use courses from the Option or Other requirements of your program. If you don't have enough room in your Option or Other requirements then you will have to take additional courses for which you will be charged extra tuition.

Previously students had to keep track of their own progress towards satisfying the requirements of the minor. Then, at graduation time, the student would apply for the minor and hope they had taken the correct courses. Now, students can apply online for a minor at any time using UWinsite Student, even if you are only in first year. Your minor will then be recorded on your record. Whenever you run an Academic Progress report your minor requirements will now appear in the report, immediately following your major requirements. You must normally attain a minimum average of 60% in the courses used to satisfy your minor. Also, if you have transfer credits, then you must ensure that at least 3 of the minor courses are successfully completed at the University of Windsor.

Any questions regarding minors can be discussed with your Academic Advisor.
