WRITING THREE OR MORE EXAMS ON THE SAME DAY |
A student scheduled to write three invigilated final examinations in one calendar day, or three or more final |
examinations in consecutive time slots over a 24-hour period, may apply to have one examination rescheduled on an |
alternate examination day. The determination of which examination shall be rescheduled and the date of the alternate |
examination (may be the last possible day of the examination period) shall be made by the Registrar. Please download |
the appropriate form from http://www.uwindsor.ca/registrar and submit to the Office of the Registrar. |
EXAM CONFLICTS DUE TO OBSERVANCE OF RELIGIOUS HOLY DAYS. |
Students who are unable to write a final examination(s) during the regularly scheduled time slot because of a conflict |
with religious conviction must apply for the alternative examination(s) in the course(s) involved by the end of the |
normal add/drop period for the particular session. The Registrar's Office will schedule the alternative examination(s) for |
those students in another slot(s) within the regular examination period. Please download the appropriate form from |
http://www.uwindsor.ca/registrar and submit to the Office of the Registrar. |
Note: These applications must be submitted by the end of the fourth week of classes (second week of classes for 6 |
week courses). |

Circadian Biology

Circadian rhythms are biological processes that occur every 24 hours. Nearly all organisms have evolved |
circadian rhythms, because the Earth rotates with a 24 hour period and exposes its surface to constant |
cycles of sunlight. However, circadian rhythms are not simply a response to light, they are subject to the |
workings of a molecular clock that fundamentally influences the health and physiology of living things. The |
purpose of this course is to develop a knowledge of the core concepts in circadian biology. We will start at |
the beginning, with the early experiments that demonstrated that plants and animals have intrinsic circadian |
systems, and the behavioral genetics experiments that later confirmed the existence of a molecular clock. |
The course will encompass a very broad range of organisms, from cyanobacteria, to fungi, to plants, to |
animals. Introductory and closing lectures will be provided by the instructor, and students will take turns to |
lead presentations on assigned topics during the semester. The course material will be in the form of |
published manuscripts in this field. Students are expected to read these in advance and contribute to class |
discussion. A final paper will be assigned at the end of the semester. |

In this course, students learn about smart cities and their relation with sustainable and resilient cities. They |
are presented with good practices of smart cities around the world and the state- of-the-art technologies that |
were used. They will see a city as a complex system and learn about two approaches of looking at complex |
issues including system thinking and SWOT analysis. Smart grids, transportation networks, urban |
agriculture, cyber security, and the advancement of ICT and their applications in smart cities will be |
discussed. They will be encouraged to select a city problem, find solutions, design scenarios or prototype |
their inventions as their assignment. |

The course introduces global optimization algorithms for searching global solutions to continuous or |
discrete problems with multiple maxima or minima without or with constraints. The course covers |
optimization algorithms selected from genetic algorithm, differential evolution, particle swarm |
optimization, simulated annealing, ant colony optimization, cultural algorithm, and other emerging |
optimization algorithms. |
The course requires students to have acquired an ability to write Matlab programs. Students who are not |
proficient with Matlab programming can use Matlab Toolbox (Global Optimization) instead of writing |
Matlab programs to implement optimization algorithms for completing course assignments and project. |

This course addresses fluid dynamic phenomena of interest in internal flows. Flows in air-breathing |
propulsion systems, turbomachines, and other internal flows are discussed. The concepts and their |
applications have broad scope in a variety of fluid flow devices. The emphasis is on the fluid mechanic |
principles that govern the behaviour of such devices. A high level of rigorousness is employed. |
Topics include rotational flows which are often three-dimensional, and sometimes unsteady. The course |
will mainly focus on developing advanced ways of thinking about fluid motion as a gateway to physical |
insight into the behaviour of complex flows. Simplified, conceptually rigorous modelling is used as much |
as possible. The details of complex flows are best determined computationally and experimentally, and the |
aim of this course is to provide an increased capability to interpret computational and experimental results. |

Virtual analyses is now an integral part of product design and development. Virtual simulation tools not |
only provide in depth analysis, but, also help reduce the prototype cost. However, accurate prediction of |
design parameters of a topologically complex computational domain is of paramount significance in the |
product design and development. This course is aimed at establishing the computational requirement and |
applying the fundamental aspects of the numerical modeling to a variety of systems in automobile. This |
course will help student analyze the performance of components and establish the interdependencies of |
various systems in an automobile and single out the significance of one system over the other. |

This course covers the fundamental principles for the testing and development of internal combustion |
engines, providing the necessary tools required to effectively carry out meaningful tests. The use of |
LabVIEW software for analysis is covered in detail. The course explains the testing |
process for performance and durability, including the necessary instrumentation. The testing and |
performance of the internal engine engines include the cylinder pressure measurement and analysis, exhaust |
gas measurement and analysis, fuel flow measurement and stoichiometry |
calculations, exhaust gas recirculation estimation, thermodynamic analysis including mechanical losses, |
combustion process and energy balance. The fundamentals of each aspect are explained with detailed |
calculations and practical problems encountered during such tests. |
Engine-specific data analysis techniques (performance, efficiency, heat release, cycle work, cyclic |
variability, energy distribution) taught using NI LabVIEW. |

This semi-structured seminar will provide opportunities to explore selected theoretical and practical issues |
pertaining to ethics in everyday nursing practice and within the broader health care sector. The course will |
begin with a brief introduction to the core principles of moral philosophy, as they relate to nursing and |
health care ethics. Through the use of focused reading of selected texts and case studies, informal |
discussion and formal writing, students will examine ethical questions and proposed solutions relevant to a |
variety of contemporary health care issues and settings. Effective organizational structures and processed |
that foster ethical nursing practice and leadership will also be explored. |
