Canada Foundation for Innovation 2017 Innovation Fund Draft Call for Proposals

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has recently announced the draft Call for Proposals for the 2017 Innovation Fund (IF) competition.

The CFI-IF provides funding for infrastructure projects that will support cutting-edge, globally competitive research. The fund seeks to support promising and innovative research or technology development in areas where Canada currently is, or has the potential to be, competitive on the global stage. It is meant for institutions and their researchers to build on established capabilities to accelerate current research and technology development or to enhance emerging strategic priority areas.

The CFI will provide a maximum of 40% of total project costs to successful projects. It is anticipated that a further 40% will be requested from Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovation (MRI) under the Ontario Research Fund (ORF)-Large Infrastructure program. The remaining 20% is typically provided through vendor discounts, institutional or other eligible sources. The CFI places an upper limit on the total value of the funding that eligible institutions may request. UWindsor’s tentative allocation is $7 million. Details of the CFI Draft Call for Proposals are available at: www.innovation.ca/en/OurFunds/CFIFunds/innovation-fund
