Scientists and Engineers in Business (SEB) "Global Start" Fellowships Opportunity

The University of Windsor, in partnership with Carleton University, has been awarded the Scientists and Engineers in Business (SEB) "Global Start" Fellowship by FedDev to provide seed funding of up to $25,000 (each) to graduating Masters and PhD students and recent alumni (within 3 years of graduation) of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs who are interested in commercializing their innovations or starting high-technology businesses. Save the Date: Annual Research Showcase - April 27

Our fourth annual "Research Showcase and Outreach to Community" event will take place at Devonshire Mall on Saturday, April 27, 2013.

We are planning on showcasing University of Windsor research activities currently taking place at the University and are eager to g ive researchers and their teams an opportunity to put on interactive exhibits and hands-on demonstrations related to their research.

We are inviting you to encourage your faculty, graduate and undergraduate students to be involved in this event. It is an important event to reach out within our community and to highlight the excellent research that is taking place locally. We look forward to your participation.

Spring Grant-Writing Retreat - Social Sciences, Humanities, & Health

•Participants work on their draft grant proposals, leaving only finishing touches for the hectic fall semester.
•Extensive quiet writing time is interwoven with collegial discussion during works-in-progress groups and workshops.

•20 participants share their diverse experience and expertise in writing across disciplines, methodologies, and funding agencies.

NSERC CREATE Program Grant

The Office of Research Services would like to inform those applying for the NSERC CREATE Program grant to provide us with a confirmation of your intent to submit a LOI no later than Friday, March 15, 2013.
Furthermore, we have established a deadline for internal submission of letter of intent (LOI) which is the phase 1 of the application process, of Monday, April 15, 2013. The final submission date to NSERC for the CREATE LOI is May 1, 2013 and the University of Windsor has an assigned allocation of LOIs that it is able to submit.

This seed grant is a small non-renewable funding opportunity for researchers to conduct research and other scholarly and artistic activities that aid in strengthening future external grant applications. The maximum award per grant is $5,000. Eligible applicants include full-time Faculty Members, Librarians and Ancillary Academic Staff who hold a tenured, tenure-track position, or a Limited Term position held for the duration of the grant.

The grant is intended to (i) contribute financial support to eligible applicants to help them establish a research program or initiate a new project that will attract external support (ii) provide seed money for well-defined projects that will lead to applications for external grants by individuals or groups; and (iii) provide research funding for discrete independent research projects leading to publications, scholarly and creative work. The Guidelines for the Program together with the Application form and instructions may be accessed on the ORS website.

Applications are to be submitted to: Diane Awram, Research Funding Officer, Room 301, CHT by March 15, 2013 by 4:30 pm.

Compute Canada Announces Grants

Under the direction of the new CEO Bill Appelbe, Compute Canada is starting to make its presence felt. On January 21, 2013, they announced grants of nearly $72 million worth of state-of-the-art computing, storage, and support resources allocated to 212 Canadian research projects across the country. SHARCNET is now part of this national umbrella organization. For more information about the

SHARCNET Research Day

The planning process has begun for a SHARCNET Research Day. This year it will be held at Sheridan College in May (date to be determined). This is a great opportunity for students, either undergraduate or graduate, to talk about their research. If you have suggestions for keynote speakers or special topics, please forward them to me as soon as possible or send them directly to Ed Sykes (ed.sykes@sheridancollege.ca).
