CCV NEWS - NSERC & SSHRC encourage researchers to start CCV

The Canadian Common CV (CCV) will gradually be incorporated into the application process for NSERC and SSHRC opportunities over the coming years. It is now required for:
• NSERC Discovery NOI & application
• NSERC Subatomic Physics Grant
• SSHRC Insight Development
• SSHRC Partnership Grant LOI (anticipated)
• Most CIHR funding opportunities

Transition to the CCV is a major endeavour and may take 1 or 2 full days. NSERC and SSHRC encourage everyone using the CCV to start filling it out as early as possible.

UWindsor faculty are invited to complete their CCVs during our lab (details below), and to extend this invitation to local co-applicants and collaborators. NSERC and SSHRC are joining CIHR in requiring the Canadian Common CV for their grant applications. The transfer from the NSERC CV and SSHRC CV will be gradual, with NSERC requiring the CCV for all NSERC NOIs due in August.

NSERC Research Tools and Instruments Grants Program (RTI)

New Application Process Fall 2013 Competition
As you are aware NSERC has determined they will continue a national competition for the Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) competition this year, however, universities have been provided with a quota of the number of RTI applications that they can submit to NSERC.  Our University of Windsor quota is 6 applications.  As a result of this new quota, we have requested the Deans to review and rank all RTI applications for the Fall 2013 competition.  Upon completion of the Dean's review and ranking, all applications will be submitted to the Office of Research with the final review being undertaken by the Vice-President Research who will confirm the 6 applications that will be submitted for the Fall 2013 RTI competition.  Please note, if your RTI proposal has not been reviewed by your Dean it will not be considered for submission.

The timelines for this internal review processes are listed in the table below:

Proposals submitted to Deans for review and approval by September 30, 2013

Proposal submitted to ORS by October 9, 2013

VPR:  selection and approval of 6 proposals for final submission to NSERC by October 16, 2013

NSERC submission deadline by October 25, 2013

Additionally, I would like to communicate that in order to apply, researchers must submit an Application for a Grant (Form 101) and a Personal Data Form (Form 100) for the applicant and each co-applicant. The current years RTI competition does not require a CCV to be completed. To aid the process of the internal selection of applications NSERC has already (as of June 14, 2013 ) provided access to the RTI application forms.

Only applications from applicants and co-applicants who currently hold or are applying for an NSERC research grant (e.g., Discovery, Strategic, Research Partnership, and Canada Research Chairs) at the time of application meet the NSERC eligibility criteria for the RTI Grant.

If a cash contribution towards the purchase of the equipment is provided by an organization (other than the applicant's institution), a letter is required from the organization confirming this commitment.
