SEM Summit 2010

"Using SEM to Unlock the Potential of the Student Experience"

April 26-28, 2010
Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites
Halifax, NS

Colleges and universities from throughout Canada have in recent years embraced strategic enrolment management (SEM) as a new way of confronting the educational challenges in today's post-secondary educational climate. The SEM paradigm encourages us to move out of the comfort provided by our respective silos and toward the development of intra- and inter-institutional perspectives--all with a focus on enhancing the student experience.

Lord Nelson Hotel & Suites, Halifax, Nova ScotiaWhile SEM has always endorsed both vertical and horizontal integrated decision-making, many of us remain challenged regarding the development of strong student experience initiatives. This spring, as we meet for the third Canadian SEM Summit, we will focus on "Using SEM to Unlock the Potential of the Student Experience." Our intention is to review best Canadian practices and enter into discussions on how to enhance the student experience through the use of SEM.

Our discussions will include a wide array of campus partners, including:

  • Faculty (deans, associate deans, department heads, faculty advisors, first-year instructors)
  • Senior administration (president, provost, vice-presidents)
  • Student affairs professionals
  • Institutional researchers
  • Finance & budgeting staff

The Canadian SEM Summit works in a unique way that differs greatly from the typical conference you may have attended. We ask our presenters to frame an issue and then to facilitate a conversation to bring forward the differing ways institutions are handling the issue at the campus level. In this way, we ensure wide-ranging discussions and many opportunities for take away ideas. It is our way of creating our own form of "deep learning"!

Plan to join college and university colleagues from throughout the country in what promises to be a fascinating 3 days in Halifax.
