Social Justice Thursday - Grad House/Sunset Cafe
The University of Windsor houses several graduate programs that either focus on, or integrate aspects of, social justice. In addition, the Centre for Studies in Social Justice organizes events and is involved with various intiatives that attempt to address social injustices in the current context. Yet, a strong student presence in such projects is lacking; while some students interested in social justice issues have expressed their desire to get more involved in on-campus and partnership projects, a cohesive effort is yet to be developed. In an effort to begin filling this gap in campus culture, we are proposing that regular meetings be held for graduate students interested in social justice issues. Please join us every third Thursday at the Grad House (458 Sunset) at 5pm. The structure will be flexible, so bring suggestions for discussion topics, potential projects, concerns, etc.

Dr. Rudhramoorthy Cheran will be providing a viewing of this film followed by discussion. Some of them were tortured. The film traces the story of these young men through all those involved: Refugees, Canadian Immigration officers, Canadian High Commission officers, IOM representative and the Amnesty International. The film was produced by Wild Heart Production, Montreal for TVO (2000) and directed by Dr. R. Cheran and Catherine Brainbridge. Dr. Cheran is an assistant Professor with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Windsor.
