Eleanor Maticka-Tyndale holds a Canada Research Chair in Social Justice and Sexual Health. Her research focuses on how sexuality and sexual behaviours are embedded within social and cultural contexts. This has included research on Ethnic variations in sexual behaviours and their relationship to HIV risk. Sexuality and HIV risk and prevention in northeast Thailand. Sexual behaviours and health of youth in Canada, Sweden, France, Great Britain and the United States. How ‘sexualized’ vacations such as ‘Spring Break’ and ‘Schoolies Week’ influence sexual activity. How AIDS therapies interface with the daily lives of those taking them. How local policies influence the work, health and safety of exotic dancers and escorts.
Dr. Maticka-Tyndale’s current projects include: A study of how policies and programmes influence health and safety when engaging in different kinds of sex work. Research and evaluation of a school-based HIV prevention programme in Kenya. On-going analysis of Canadian data on sexual behaviours and sexual health.
Dr Maticka-Tyndale’s main areas of teaching are Sexuality, Health, Research Methods, and Statistics.
