M.A. in Criminology

OVERVIEW | ADMISSIONS & PROCEDURES

For admission to the M.A. program in Criminology, applicants must hold an Honours degree in Criminology or a related discipline from a recognized university.
Possession of the minimum academic requirements does not ensure acceptance.

Students not having a sufficient background in statistics and/or social theory maybe required to take 02-250 and 48-308 and/or 48-202 and 48-302.

Applicants will be assessed with respect to their academic qualifications, achievements, and letters of recommendation. The specifics of the application process are outlined below.
All application materials must be received by January 31 for consideration for the following September admission.

Applications are sent to the Office of the Registrar, Graduate Studies Division and must include the following materials:

a. Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended sent directly to the Office of the Registrar, Graduate Studies Division;

b. Letter from the applicant including a statement of interest or plan of study;

c. Three letters of reference in sealed envelopes with the referee’s signature
across the seal (these may be sent by the applicant or under separate cover by the referees);

d. A resumé or CV.

The Graduate Committee will review all applications. Review of applicants will include:

A review of each applicant’s grades, statement of interest, letters of reference, and resumé or CV.

Ranking of all applicants will be based on the committee’s assessment of the quality of their application and the availability of graduate faculty to advise, supervise and provide funding/research training in conjunction with their own research projects, and the diversity of subject areas represented in the applicant pool.
