Research and Teaching Areas

Residential mobility behaviour was the topic of Dr. Phipp's doctoral dissertation at the University of Iowa USA in 1978. He has subsequently published numerous articles on this topic of why residents move home, mostly utilizing experimental analyses of individuals' behaviours in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Windsor, Ontario. His subsequent research has evolved from this into his current research on how community residents may fight closures of their neighbourhood schools, and how and why residents do or do not maintain and improve the exteriors of their homes. Dr. Phipps was formerly a geographer, and so, he has an ongoing interest in programming Google maps of social data. he is now also a registered planner in the Province of Ontario, Canada.
