Q.  What kind of employment can I seek with a Sociology degree? 

A.  A BA in Sociology is an excellent preparation for future graduate work in Sociology in order to become a professor, researcher or applied Sociologist. Sociology offers valuable preparation for careers in journalism, politics, public relations, business, law, education, medicine, social work or public administration fields that involve investigative skills and working with diverse groups and counseling.
Today Sociologist embark upon literally hundreds of career paths. Although teaching and conducting research remains the dominant activity among the thousands of professional sociologist today, other forms of employment are growing both in number and significance. In some sectors, sociologist work closely with economists, political scientist, anthropologist, psychologist, social workers and others, reflecting a growing appreciation of sociology’s contributions to interdisciplinary analysis and action.

Q.  Can I get a graduate degree (post- BA) in Sociology at the University of Windsor?

A.  Yes, a Masters Program in Sociology is offered at the graduate level, students in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology will be expected to specialize in one of the four areas - International Development, Criminology, Family, Sex and Gender or Work. A Doctoral Program in Sociology is also offered that specializes in Social Justice.

Q.  Who teaches Sociology courses at the University of Windsor?

A.  We are an interdisciplinary department so that some of our courses are cross-listed with Anthropology courses taught by professors who generally have post-graduate training in both Anthropology and Sociology. Also, sessional instructors teach some Anthropology courses as the opportunity arises.
