Dr. Krista Chandler

Education:

Bio:
Dr. Krista Chandler has been a faculty member in the department since 1999. She teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of sport and exercise psychology. As a certified instructor in the fitness industry, Dr. Chandler has skillfully bridged the gap between the theoretical and applied practice of sport and exercise psychology. Dr. Chandler has published articles in a variety of scholarly journals including The Sport Psychologist, European Journal of Sport Sciences, Exercise and Sport Science Review, and the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology. In addition to her research, Dr. Chandler works with athletes of all ages, levels, and sport in helping them achieve their personal performance goals, working extensively with both able-bodied athletes and athletes with a disability.

Dr. Todd Loughead

Education:

Bio: Dr. Loughead has been a faculty member since 2005 in the area of sport and exercise psychology. Dr. Loughead’s research uses a group dynamics perspective to examine human behaviour. Specifically, his interests are investigating cohesion in sport teams and exercise groups and how cohesion affects other variables, such as athlete satisfaction, leadership, exercise adherence, motivation, and future participation. As well, he is interested in the influence of athlete leadership in sport and how this affects the team’s functioning. His research also examines various aspects of team building interventions such as the effectiveness of team goal setting. Dr. Loughead is also investigating the psychosocial variables that influence aggression levels in hockey and its effect on enjoyment and participation. He consults with athletes from numerous sports at all levels of competition. Dr. Loughead is a member of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology (AASP), the Canadian Society for Psychomotor Learning and Sport Psychology (SCAPPS), and the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity (NASPSPA).
