Events

 The Volunteer International Students Assistance or V.I.S.A. is an organisation that helps fulfill and provide resources toward the academic and social growth of international, exchange as well as local students at the University of Windsor. As the Events Team for 2010-2011, Marsha Pereira and Suzana Deaconescu work together to help facilitate different events throughout the year to encourage the positive interaction of international and local students as well as organise activities in safe and inclusive environments. These get togethers which are free or minimal in cost help provide a foundation and stepping stone of relations between students and gives them the opportunity to meet others from all around the world.

 Throughout the year, there are bi-weekly events that are organised and held by V.I.S.A. This semester, we have already organised some wonderful outings. Bowling night or going out to dinner at different area restaurants (mmm!) are some popular favourites but V.I.S.A. also puts together other events as well. In the past, and hopefully in the near future, pot-luck dinners have been held where students prepare and bring food from their respective countries so that other students can get a taste of their part of the world! Playing a sport like game of soccer, volleyball, basketball, etc. are also great opportunities for students to connect and stay fit. And of course, when winter approaches, a trip to the ice rink is a must. It is one of the most appropriate ways to experience (and enjoy!) the lovely Canadian weather! 

Most recently, V.I.S.A. held our Amazing Race event which familiarised first-year students with the University of Windsor Campus and surrounding popular businesses where students frequent. An ongoing initiative also being held this year has been flag painting in the basement of the ISC. With the efforts and contributions of many International and Canadian students who have used their fabulous artistic abilities, they have painted flags from every part of the world you can imagine! It's still a work in progress but looks colourful and fantastic already!
