Reception - Front Lines

SoCA Gallery, Armouries, 37 University Ave. East

 

The School of Creative Arts is currently hosting an exhibition in the Armouries’ SoCA Gallery featuring works by 32 students in grades 9 – 12 representing five high schools in the region: Kennedy Collegiate, Walkerville Collegiate, Sandwich Secondary School, Catholic Central and Essex DHS. The exhibition is free to visit, and is open weekdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm near the north entrance to the Armouries on University Avenue.

 

Front Lines is an important collaboration between the University of Windsor's School of Creative Arts and Windsor-Essex High Schools. Towards the end of the school year, visual arts high school teachers select works from their top performing students for exhibition in the SoCA Gallery. Join students, families, teachers, arts faculty and the wider community this Friday, June 14, 6 – 8 pm for a free reception in the gallery to celebrate these students and to thank the teachers for their dedication to visual arts education.

 

This event provides students with the opportunity to showcase their curated, imaginative works in the new gallery located in the beautifully re-imagined Armouries building in downtown Windsor. It is also a wonderful opportunity for contributors to engage with the university community and public through their media.

 

For 11 years SoCA - Visual Arts hosted this “Locale” exhibition of high school students’ work at the Le Bel building. The exhibition took a hiatus for two years while the school sorted and packed equipment and then moved into its new downtown campus, set up new labs and studios, and got the new SoCA Gallery up and running.  Everyone involved is excited to see this exhibition hosted in this wonderful new space.
