Windsor research among nation's leaders in growth
A report released this week by consulting firm Re$earch Infosource ranks the University of Windsor 27th on a list of Canada's top 50 research universities. Vice-President, Research, Dr. Ranjana Bird is excited about the progress the institution has made over the last 10 years relative to its peer institutions.
The firm reviewed growth over the past decade in three measures—total number of research publications, research income per full-time faculty member, and sponsored research income.
Among 11 comprehensive Canadian universities, UWindsor ranked:
· second in growth in research publications, with a 99.6 percent increase;
· second in growth in research intensity, with a 176.6 percent increase; and
· third in growth in research income, with a 246.8 percent increase.
According to the report, UWindsor faculty generated almost $35 million in sponsored research income in 2009.
"Our past achievements are a credit to our researchers who are passionate about research and are positioning the University of Windsor as the leader in generating new knowledge and producing highly qualified people to make a better world," said Dr. Bird. "I salute all researchers and scholars, students, staff and our government funding agencies, industrial and community partners who have made this possible."
