Lab Safety

In every workplace there exist hazards that could potentially lead to accidents or injuries. Our Engineering Laboratories are no exceptions. Injuries can be of chemical, ionizing and non ionizing radiation (electromagnetic), laser, physical and electrical in nature. As an Engineering student, you will be instructed on general guidelines and health and safety of working in our high tech laboratories. All students and supervisors must wear proper eye protection, gloves, lab coats and hearing protection. Your laboratory sessions will include an orientation about WHIMIS and the health and safety procedures of the university.  We have many exciting hands on research laboratories for you to discover:

  • The Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM)
  • Our fully equipped Environmental Engineering laboratories are capable of analysing physical, chemical and biological contaminants.
  • Undergraduate and graduate research laboratories boast state-of-the-art advanced analytical equipment such as; gas chromatographs with flame ionization and thermal conductivity.
  • A cold room with a computer data acquisition system for measuring the characteristics of soil-structure interactions used for cold region engineering.
  • Our Hydraulic Laboratories are equipped with three flumes.
  • The Structures Laboratory also maintains high-end computers and a range of finite element analysis packages for student training.
