Speak Up, Speak Out: Amy Graf

Amy Graf“As a single mom in my mid twenties, I made a choice to go back to school. I had already chosen Social Work as my major when I was introduced to Dr. Betty Barrett, a Social Work and Women’s Studies professor. I was automatically intrigued as she described some of the courses in Women’s Studies. Immediately, I decided to take Women’s Studies as my second major. Although I didn’t know it at the time, choosing to take Women’s Studies was absolutely one of the best decisions I’ve made. Women’s Studies has not only given me a better understanding of many of the issues discussed in my Social Work classes such as, racism, gender, privilege and bias, it has helped me to understand myself. I think that this type of life-changing education can benefit anybody willing to try the program. I both invite and encourage you to let Women’s Studies make a difference in your life! See you on campus!”
