WECAP Employer Information

Windsor-Essex Career Apprenticeship Program (WECAP) connects Windsor-Essex County employers with a pool of talented, soon-to-be grads from UWindsor’s Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences undergraduate programs for early-career apprenticeship opportunities.

Participating organizations will have the opportunity to receive a grant for four months salary paid to the qualified and career-ready new graduate hired through the program. WECAP employers are required to create a career apprenticeship opportunity within their organization for a new graduate to launch their career locally and build on their experience and skill development.

All WECAP opportunities are full-time and paid for at least one year and successful candidates will begin their apprenticeship in May or June of 2023. 

Grant of $10,000 per hire: Receive a grant valued at four months’ salary ($2,500/month) for the hired candidate to a maximum of $10,000 per position. Grant reimburses employers for the first two and last two months of full-time salary for the 12-month apprenticeship Full-time hours (min. 32/week) must be maintain throughout year-long apprenticeship to continue to receive funds.

Talented new grads: Direct access to a pool of energetic, talented, and career-ready graduating students that can bring a new perspective and contributions to your organization as young professionals.

Support from CDEL: Receive support through the application, interview, and hiring process from UWindsor’s Career Development & Experiential Learning (CDEL) team.

  • Program is open to organizations located within Windsor and Essex County, with a minimum of 7 employees.
  • Employer can offer entry-level employment opportunities for graduating Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences undergraduate students with a start date in May or June 2023.
  • Each apprenticeship must be full-time, paid by salary, and offer meaningful opportunities to develop skills and contribute to the growth and development of the organization for at least one year.  
  • Employers can hire a maximum of two apprentices through this program and receive a maximum of $20,000 in grants.
  • Other sources of funding (i.e. wage subsidy programs) cannot be used to fund this position during the 12-month period.
  • Posting a position does not require that employers extend a job offer, nor does it guarantee the opportunity to hire an apprentice. Job offers and acceptances will be confirmed after a competitive application, interview, and matching process.

Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences new grads: Current students or recent graduates from a Facutly of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences undergraduate degree program at the University of Windsor. Ready to work full-time for 1 year beginning May 2023: Eligible students are on track to complete their final semester in Fall 2022 or Winter 2023 and are ready to commit to 12 continuous months of full-time employment beginning in May or June of 2022.

Canadian citizens/perminent residents eligible to work in Canada: Students must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident legally eligible to work full-time in Canada.

February 24, 2023: Deadline to submit qualifying job postings. If the maximum number of postings has not been reached, late postings may be accepted beyond this deadline.

March 16, 2023: Receive package containing applications from eligible students/graduates.

March 20 - 31, 2023: Invited candidates of your choice to attend interviews.

April 7, 2023: Deadline to submit candidate rankings and job offer details to CDEL.

April 11, 2023: Receive confirmation of accepted job offer and match with an apprentice.       

May 1 – June 30, 2023: Apprenticeship begins.
