Description: Bruce Power; Assistant Plant Manager, Bruce A

Bruce Power located in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada, currently operates eight nuclear reactors and is home to one of the largest nuclear power plants in the world. Bruce Power is blazing a new narrative for the nuclear industry in its role as a green energy provider in contributing to Canada’s fight against climate change. The company contributes a reliable 6,550 Megawatts (MW) of power to the Ontario grid from its eight pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWR), each with gross capacities varying from 786MW to 891MW and accounts for approximately 30 percent of the total energy consumed by the province.

The company also supplies life-saving medical isotopes and continues to be a world leader in the production of Cobalt-60 harvesting this isotope for more than 30 years. Within the last few years, Bruce Power has expanded their supply of isotopes and recently marked a significant milestone developing a first of-a-kind Isotope Production System (IPS) that is used to create Lutetium-177, a medical isotope used in precision oncology for targeted therapy.

Bruce Power employs around 4,000 full-time employees and currently has another 3,000 contract workers on site, placing it as the largest employer in Bruce County and one of the largest construction sites in Ontario and Canada

As part of the power purchase agreement, Bruce Power is undertaking six Major Component Replacement (MCR) projects and refurbishing major reactor components that will extend the life of the reactors out to 2064.

As the assistant plant manager at the Bruce A Station, I have a support and oversight role on the upcoming refurbishment of Unit 3. As a Senior Leaders, I also support the continued safe and reliable operation of the 4 units at Bruce A.

As part of this hose experience, we will tour the operating facility and the general site. In addition, we will set up a session with our HR team for introductions.

Description: York Region Paramedic Services; Paramedic

Paramedics in Ontario are part of a Base Hospital system that regulates designated acts of medicine to be performed in a prehospital setting. These acts include but are not limited to: drug administration, airway management, mechanical ventilation, life-saving resuscitation techniques, cardiac analysis, intravenous administration and maintenance and emergency childbirth.

As paramedics we respond to a multitude of emergency and non-emergency 911 calls across our region of employment.

Our calls range from medical in origin (ex. strokes, seizures and heart attacks) to trauma (ex. car accidents, boating injuries, shootings/stabbings)

Our primary goal is to resuscitate, treat, stabilize and/or maintain patients until we can get them to the closest hospital for further treatment/surgery.

Select few paramedics are registered to be preceptors. We take on paramedic students for a 400 hour learning experience in order to complete the provincial requirements for completion of the paramedic program and to be authorized to write the AEMCA provincial certification board.

There are 3 levels of paramedics in Ontario: Primary, Advanced, and Critical. All of which have the ability to work at a land-based service (regional municipalities). Air-based service (ORNGE) require an aero-medical test and certification to be performed prior to employment.
