Faculty and alumni concerts to highlight anniversary showcase

Historic Mackenzie Hall Cultural Centre is the setting for a showcase of the visual and musical arts, presenting works by alumni of UWindsor programs in the School for Arts and Creative Innovation this week as part of the celebrations of the University’s 50th anniversary.

An art exhibition displays works by 19 graduates, for free viewing by the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Sunday, January 19. Participating artists include: Daniel Bernyk (BFA 2009), Judy Chappus (BFA 1985), Sandie Collins (BFA 1987), Rebecca Draisey (BFA 1998), Arturo Herrera (BFA 2012), Val Houston (BFA 1976, B.Ed 1991),  Jean-Rene Leblanc (MFA 1996), Liana LoDuca (BFA 1997), Irene MacCreadie (BFA 1991, B.Ed 1993),  Alex McKay (BFA 1990), Shawna Munro (BFA 2009), Giovanni Pecoraro (BFA 1992, B.Ed 1998), Allen Plant (BFA 1990, B.Ed 2009), Gisele Poisson (BFA 2006), David Poolman (MFA 2001), Lee Rabideau (BFA 1988, B.Ed 1989), Sanja Srdanov (BFA 2001, B.Ed 2002), Michele Tarailo (BFA 1976, B.Ed 1990) and Carla Winterbottom (BFA 1987).

A free public reception at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 17, allows for the opportunity to meet the artists and other UWindsor alumni.

Following the reception, a concert will feature performances by music graduates, including soprano Erin Armstrong (BMus 2007), soprano Christine Turingia (BMus 2007), bass Allen Levack (BMus 2011), saxophonist Marc Funkenhauser (BMus 2010), guitarist Steven Dearing (BMus 1992), pianist Joanna Shultz (BMT 2011) and the Majestic Brass Quintet: trumpeters Bob Fazecash (BMA 1977) and Brian Zanier (BMus 1996); trombonists Corey Fitzpatrick (BMus 1977) and Michael Stone (BMus 1985); and horn player Bernadette Berthelotte (BMus 1981). Professor Philip Adamson will provide piano accompaniment as appropriate.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 with a student rate of $5.

The weekend will culminate in a Faculty Trio Concert featuring performances by three music instructors—violinist and Windsor Symphony Orchestra concertmaster Lillian Scheirich, renowned pianist E. Gregory Butler, and distinguished clarinetist Trevor Pittman—in a program of duet and trio works.

The show gets underway at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 19. Admission is $15, $5 for students. Program notes and performer profiles are available on the event website.
