SoCA’s move to downtown delayed

The new home for the University of Windsor’s School of Creative Arts in the redesigned Armouries and the new Freedom Way building continues to make very good progress, but full construction completion suitable for occupancy for academic programs will not be possible until later in the Fall.

For that reason, during the Fall 2017 semester, all SOCA academic programs must continue to operate out of the existing facilities on the main campus.  While this delay is disappointing, it will ensure that student activities are not disrupted, and that the new buildings will be fully tested and operational for the January 2018 semester.  The coming months, as completion occurs, will allow faculty and staff to familiarize themselves with the new locations and equipment.

There will be an official opening of the facilities in November once occupancy is underway.  Students, faculty and staff will be involved in preparing for the official opening, an event to which the community will be invited.  More details about the opening will be made available in the weeks to come.

The new home for the School of Creative Arts will be a distinctive landmark for the University and the community, and provide unique state-of-the-art facilities.  Everyone’s efforts and patience as the transition to this new location occurs is greatly appreciated.
