Handing out food to some of Windsor’s needy affected by the COVID-19 pandemic was a heartwarming experience for Mona Sleiman, marketing co-ordinator for Lancer athletics.

She had the opportunity to join staff from local Taco Bell restaurants, a sponsor of UWindsor varsity sports, delivering meals Tuesday and Wednesday to the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families and the Windsor Residence for Young Men.

“I feel so blessed to be a part of this heart-warming initiative,” said Sleiman.

Jason Weinberg, program director of the Windsor Residence for Young Men, said both staff and residents were grateful for the support.

“Your generosity gave our youth and employees something to smile about, during a time when there has been very little to celebrate,” he wrote to Puja Gupta, CFO of franchise owners, the Gupta Group of Restaurants.

The company has also sent hot meals to staff at the Windsor Regional Hospital off-site location in the St. Clair College Sportsplex, and plans to make a delivery Wednesday, May 6, to students living in University of Windsor residences.
