Pledge drive invites listeners to give the gift of radio

Campus-community radio station CJAMfm will launch its annual pledge drive today, and station manager Adam Fox says it relies on donations to sustain its operations.

“CJAM needs listener support to help cover the basic day-to-day costs of radio,” Fox says. “Pledge donations represent roughly 20 percent of our annual operating revenues.”

The station plans a number of events through the week, kicking off tonight with a concert featuring the bands Cellos, Surdmaster, and Silent Movie Type. Admission is a minimum donation of $7 and is restricted to those 19 years and older. It starts at 10 p.m. at FM Lounge, 156 Chatham Street West.

Saturday, November 5, the Muggs are in concert with Jarrod Wolny, starting at 8 p.m. at Cadieux Cafe, 4300 Cadieux Road, Detroit. Cover is a $10 minimum donation and the show is 18+.

Phog Lounge is the setting for a screening of the films Nirvana: Live at the Paramount and Saturday Night Fever on Sunday, November 6, at 8 p.m. Entry by donation and restricted to 19+. Phog is located at 157 University Avenue West.

A dubstep dance party will feature Dstruct.o and Martin Deck at the Room, 255 Ouellette Avenue, Thursday, November 10 at 10 p.m. A minimum donation of $5 and a minimum age of 19 years required for entry.

Imaginary Cities and Menos Mal perform in concert at Phog Lounge on Friday, November 11. It starts at 10 p.m. Admission is a minimum donation of $7 and is restricted to those 19 years and older.

Fox emphasizes his station’s proud legacy of broadcasting music and information otherwise unavailable on radio: “CJAM prioritizes local content – our programs put our communities first with grassroots radio that focuses on the music, ideas, and issues from our backyard.”
