International students celebrate opening of new centre

The new location of the International Student Centre is “amazing,” says Paran Ahluwalia.

The fourth-year electrical engineering major, a native of India, is president of the International Student Society. She was on hand Thursday for a reception celebrating the grand opening of the centre, on the second floor of Laurier Hall.

“The staff here are so nice,” she says. “I hope the beautiful new space means more international students will come here.”

Mahek Ajmera, coordinator of Volunteer International Student Assistance, says the centre’s location in the middle of campus residences will make it more accessible to students.

“A lot of Canadians will get to know more about the International Student Centre,” he says.

Mike Houston, director of international affairs, echoes that sentiment.

“It’s not just for international students, but for domestic students interested in an international experience,” he says. “It’s an incredible facility for a great number of students that are so important to the university.”

The students appreciate the investment, says Kim Moore, director of international admissions.

“The new space is wonderful – it’s visual,” she says. “The students see that the University of Windsor wants them here.”
